How do Stemming Plugs help in Mining?

In blasting operations, maximum blast containment means greater fragmentation and micro-fractures, with more tonnage processed at less cost. Stemming plugs make a blocking effect inside the drill hole that ensures explosives gases are retained a little longer. Upon detonation of the explosives, the plug is forced upward into the stemming material and “locks up”. The resultant explosive gases and energy are contained within the rock mass resulting in better fragmentation, reduced fly rock and much lesser noise and vibrations.
