Ground Vibration Monitoring

Bringing Expertise & Precision to Exploration, Estimation & Excavation

Blasting is one of the primary operations carried out during mining, quarrying and many civil engineering applications such as site levelling, foundation and trench excavations, etc. Ground vibrations are an indispensable vice of this blasting. Ground vibrations can perturb people, buildings and sensitive equipment in case of hospitals, broadcasting stations, religious institutions, heritage structures etc. At a certain magnitude, the ground vibrations can also cause significant damage to the neighbouring structures. Therefore, it is paramount to measure and control ground vibrations to safeguard the lives and property of the neighbourhood.

Uttam Blastech provides end-to-end ground vibration measurement and analysis of a project. We conduct initial as well as ongoing monitoring of ground vibrations to ensure that the guidelines of mining, quarrying, and environment comply. We also provide third-party testimonials on vibrations generated in the blasting.

Vibration Monitoring Services:

  • Ground Vibration Monitoring:

There are three levels of analysis which may be employed, depending on the type and scale of the project, the stage of project development, and the environmental setting.

Screening Assessment: Identifying vibration sensitive areas in the vicinity of a project.
General Assessment: Estimating the severity of vibration impact on surrounding premises.
Detailed Assessment: Quantifying impacts through an in-depth analysis. Defining site-specific impacts and mitigation measures.

Uttam Blastech uses NOMIS MiniSupergraph II for vibration measurement. Easy to set up NOMIS MiniSupergraph II has a seismic accuracy of +/- 3%. This seismograph can also store information in the form of a waveform, advanced bar graph, and combo modes.

  • Vibration Measurement Consulting:

It is mandatory to control and limit the ground vibrations to prescribed permissible limits. Violation of the limits can lead to a legal proceeding against the blasting companies.

Ground vibration monitoring standards in India:

permissible limits of ground vibrations in India

Uttam Blastech provides a service of continuous vibration monitoring which helps in real time identification of threshold breach. We provide optimal solutions to reduce the ground vibrations in case of violation.

Uttam Blastech also offers legal consultation on statutory compliances and risk analysis as per required standards. We also provide third-party testimonials on vibrations generated in the blasting.

  • Remote Vibration Monitoring:

Being at a site at all times is not possible. For this purpose, Uttam Blastech provides additional features on the Nomis MiniSuperGraph II which allows its remote access from any place. With just a SIM card and internet connection, data can be accessed from the comforts of home, in the office or while travelling.

Same ease, accuracy and features of the seismograph (such as reliability, ease of installation in the field and instant data readings), is available remotely along with the added benefit of GPS which automatically records the coordinates and time of the event from our subscribed satellites.

Why Uttam Blastech?

  • ISEE Standards compliant (International Society of Explosives Engineers)
  • Legal support
  • Quick Response
  • No Bureaucratic Hurdle
  • Help in legal cases like providing testimonial in courts
  • Provision for daily, weekly, monthly monitoring option based on client requirement.

Case Study of GVK Mall:

Project Details: GVK MALL
Client Name: GVK
Location: Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India

Objective/Challenge:
To provide consultancy against blast-related claims to GVK, a prominent Indian conglomerate who was constructing a new mall in Banjara Hills in 2003. The neighbouring residents almost filed a court case against the developer citing damages due to the blasts.

Approach:
Uttam Blastech completed the ground vibration monitoring at nearby structures of blasting through seismographs and documented the recordings.

End Result:
The recordings showed that the ground vibrations were within the prescribed limits and the client was able to carry on the work without further delay.

Case Study of Hyderabad Metro Rail:

Project Details: Hyderabad Metro Rail
Client Name: L&T India
Location: Hyderabad, India

Objective/Challenge:
To monitor ground vibration studies and avoid damage to a large number of shops lying in the upmarket vicinity which would hinder the project.

The foundation for the Hyderabad Metro Rail was being laid in rocky terrain. To stabilise the foundation in areas like Jubilee Hills where the metro stations would be situated over rocky strata blasting had to be conducted.

Approach:
Uttam Blastech completed the ground vibration monitoring at nearby structures of blasting through seismographs and documented the recordings.

End Result:
Uttam Blastech’s experts ensured at every step that blast noises and vibrations are within permissible limits and periodic reports regarding the same were submitted. The client was able to carry on the work without further delay.
